This is a great free and cross-platform tool for reading video metadata.

FFMPEG

FFMPEG is an excellent resource for a non-GUI approach to modifying video files.

Terminal

Mac OS’ command line called Terminal is a useful but underused tool by many creatives. Here’s a good primer on some of the most common tasks you might do in Terminal:

Keyboard Maestro

This software is the foundation of many of the efficiency keyboard shortcuts and macros you’ve seen throughout this course.

VLC

If you haven’t heard of it already, VLC is a great, open source video player that works on every major platform.

Amphetamine

This software keeps your Mac from falling asleep, something that can be disastrous during a long render.

BetterTouchTool

Another efficiency app, this thing does a lot: custom keyboard shortcuts and gestures for a variety of system actions, window snapping, and more.

ScreenBrush

This is the app I’ve personally found most useful for creating on-screen annotations.
