Gearing Up

(I’ve made this section of the course public because I’m asked what to buy on a weekly basis.)

Here you’ll find both my current recommendations on the best gear currently available for the money as well as an increasingly-comprehensive list of media-related products currently available today. But before we get to that, I’m going to force my opinions on you:

What’s more important than the camera you buy:

Learn to compose an interesting shot. Spend time and money on what’s in front of the camera. Get the camera moving when it needs to and keep your shots motivated and intentional. Expose and white balance properly. Color intelligently. Rent gear that doesn’t justify being bought and stored. Work with people who know how to do what you do not. These things matter so more than the camera itself in our day.
